This is a lovely, free-branching, semi-evergreen shrub with a compact, bushy, mound-forming habit and attractive, glossy dark green, broad elliptical leaves which turn to luscious shades of crimson-purple in the autumn. It produces stunning, waxy, tubular white flowers which emerge from clusters of attractive pink buds and possess a deliciously strong, sweet to spicy scent.
Excellent for using as an informal, flowering hedge, it makes a great choice for incorporating into the cottage garden or informal beds and borders. It can also be trained in a flat pattern as an espalier and is best grown near an entrance or path so you can indulge in its fragrance whenever you pass by.
Winner of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, it’s tolerant of exposed positions and urban pollution.
