Attractive, pinkish red buds in spring opening to 3 lobed bright green large leaves. The bark is one of its main features as the new growth is striped green and white fading to brown in maturity.

In autumn the deciduous leaves turn into a beautiful canopy of bright yellow, with helicopter like seeds hang in attractive chains.
